Christmas is over….now let’s get into Ordinary Time!

I’ll admit it, Christmas isn’t Christmas for me until after Christmas! Well, after Christmas day anyway. Then I can enter into the season and the celebration that Christmas should be. This is because working in parish ministry means that you are doing just that – working – to help everyone else enter into the feast. Once that is all taken care of and all of the rehearsals and Masses are over I get my turn! I only wish the kids didn’t have to go back to school because for me that is the heart of Christmas. Christ comes into the world into a family. Family time over Christmas break is the best. Either way, on to Ordinary Time. My kids were just lamenting yesterday “how boring” Ordinary Time is. I had to remind them that Ordinary Time is because that’s when we hear all of the accounts of healing and miracles! I know that the Church uses the phrase “Ordinary Time” because in the Latin, ordinalis means “numbered.” As we know the weeks in Ordinary Time are numbered. But I also think it should be called Ordinary Time because as i said, here we have the awesome accounts and stories of healing and miracles. These are things that should be ordinary in the life of Christians. Jesus still wants to heal and perform miracles just as he did during His public ministry while on earth. I will be praying for whatever healing and miracles the Lord wants to give me and my family during this Ordinary Time!

New album almost here!

My new album, Born Again recorded in Nashville with Jeff Thomas and in collaboration with World Library Publications is coming out soon. I can’t wait for you to hear it. Jeff has worked with a ton of great Catholic artists like Matt Maher, Tom Booth, Danielle Rose and Sarah Hart. He did a great job and I can’t wait for you all to hear the new songs! Stay tuned for the upcoming release date…

Finishing Up

Well, I am done my part as far as the recording process goes. I have sung my lines and I have sung my lines…..and I have sung them again! Now comes the ear candy. This process is amazing with modern technology. Although Jeff is in Nashville having the other players putting down their tracks I can listen via live web streams and give my input from Michigan. I was actually cleaning my kitchen and listening to Dave Cleveland lay down guitar tracks in real time. Awesome. Dave has worked with some of the biggest names in the music industry and he is super sought after as a player. I am also blessed to have Jason Webb playing piano on the album. Jason is another amazing Nashville player who has worked with the big dogs in the industry. Not like that matters in and of itself but it speaks to their gifts and abilities and I am psyched to have them on my album.

Album Design

Working with WLP (World Library Publications in Chicago) on the album design and layout. Looks like we are going to have a scallop shell on the cover with some water pouring out of it. This is not just because I happen to like scallops, especially with bacon wrapped around them but moreover because the scallop shell is a traditional Catholic symbol of baptism and since the title of the album is “Born Again” and the title track is about the Catholic understanding of being born again in Baptism we thought the scallop shell was appropriate.

Recording Updates

Recording is going really well. This is a new process for me for sure. I am being worked like a mule but it is good work. The hours are long and the singing is definitely strenuous on the pipes but it is reassuring to know that Jeff (the producer) is picky about the tracks because that means the final result will be good! I’m surrounded by great players and a great producer and really excited for you all to hear the final results. Stay posted!

Nashville Here I Come!

First time in Nashville! Pretty surreal for me. At every grill in the airport there is live country music and as you leave each concourse there are stages with live country artists. Got to meet the producer, Jeff Thomas for the first time. I can’t wait to get crackin’ and to see what he’ll do with these songs. Nashville is a great city and although there is a ton of culture and history here, it’s most notably known as a center of the music industry, earning it the nickname “Music City”. I’m honored and excited to be part of it!

New Album in the Works!

I’ve just signed with WLP and am working on a new album! I decided to call this album “Born Again” since 6 of the songs are a re-release/re-recording of some of my previously recorded songs; they have been ‘born again.” Inadvertently (or rather, I pray according to God’s plan) the theme of the album has taken the theological direction of the topic of Salvation. Some of the songs are Eucharistic, some are praise and worship and some are apologetic in nature. My goal with this album is to share the truths of our faith in a contemporary and appealing way and hopefully get some of them published into hymnals so that God’s people can sing solid Catholic songs at Mass. I hope you enjoy it.
